General Questions
What is Prajaa?
Prajaa is a civic technology platform designed to be the digital bridge between citizens and their local municipal councils in Sri Lanka. It allows citizens to report issues and track progress while providing public officials with a tool to manage feedback and showcase their work, fostering transparency and accountability.
Is Prajaa free to use?
Yes, the Prajaa mobile application is completely free for all citizens to download and use for reporting issues, accessing services, and tracking government performance.
In which languages is Prajaa available?
To ensure accessibility for everyone, Prajaa is fully available in Sinhala, Tamil, and English. You can select your preferred language when you first open the app.
When and where will Prajaa be launched?
Prajaa is scheduled to launch in 2025. We will begin by rolling out the platform in select municipal councils across Sri Lanka, with a plan to expand to more regions over time. Follow our updates for specific launch locations.
For Citizens
How do I report a problem using the app?
Reporting an issue is simple. Just open the app, select the option to "Create a Complain," choose the relevant category (e.g., roads, waste management), write a brief description, attach a photo if needed, and submit. Your report will be sent directly to the appropriate municipal council department.
What happens after I submit a complaint? Can I track it?
Absolutely. This is a core feature of Prajaa. Once you submit a report, you can track its status in real-time from "Open" to "Processing" to "Closed." You will receive notifications as your issue progresses, so you are never left in the dark.
Will my personal information be public when I make a report?
We prioritize your privacy. While the details of the issue itself (like a broken street lamp at a specific location) are made available to the public and the council for transparency, your personal identity and contact details are kept confidential and are only visible to the relevant administrators for communication purposes.
Does using Prajaa guarantee my issue will be solved?
Prajaa is a powerful communication and transparency tool that ensures your voice is heard by the right people and that the issue is officially logged. While it cannot force a specific outcome, it makes the entire process transparent. This public accountability significantly increases the likelihood of a timely response and resolution.
For Public Officials & Municipal Councils
How does Prajaa benefit my municipal council?
Prajaa provides a modern, centralized system for managing public feedback. It helps you move away from disorganized complaints to a streamlined dashboard where issues are categorized and tracked. It also provides valuable data on recurring issues in your municipality, allowing for better resource planning and proactive governance.
Can I use Prajaa to communicate our projects and successes to the public?
Yes. Prajaa is also your platform to connect with the community. Officials can create a public profile to post updates on ongoing projects, announce new initiatives, and showcase completed work. This allows you to build a transparent record of performance and public trust.
How do we get our municipal council listed and active on Prajaa?
We are actively partnering with municipal councils across Sri Lanka. If you are a public official interested in bringing Prajaa to your municipality, please reach out to us through our contact page to begin the partnership process.
